MORNING STRIDES

Baille Ard Trail, Sydney

Morning Strides is a Strider Bike program designed for kids aged 1-5 years old to get active from a young age! Strider bikes can help teach balance and gain confidence to use a bike with pedals! Register now and start the day off with some fun morning strides! Reminder: Participants may bring their own bikes, but if you do not have one, we have strider bikes on hand. We have a small quantity of helmets so participants are encouraged to bring their own, parents/guardians must be in attendance.


ADAPT

Neville Park Soccer Field, Whitney Pier

CBRM Recreation’s much loved ADAPT program is back for another year! Join us Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays throughout the summer for fun, interactive activities with peers and our ADAPT leaders. This program is intended for children/youth aged 5-15 with varying abilities. Our trained and experienced ADAPT leaders accommodate all need to provide participants with an inclusive and welcoming environment. Free play, games, crafts, and one-on-one supports are available throughout the program. Please contact our ADAPT team to complete the registration form at cbrmadapt@gmail.com.

Suitable for youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. Sessions will include instruction by a certified Paddle Canada instructor. Boards and lifejackets will be provided by the CBRM Recreation. Limited spaces available. Pre-registration required.


YOUTH GIRLS PADDLE BOARDING

Mira River Provincial Park, Albert Bridge

5:15pm-6:15pm, Free

Stand Up Paddle program for females and female identifying individuals between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. Sessions will include instruction by a certified Paddle Canada instructor. Boards and lifejackets will be provided by the CBRM Recreation. Limited spaces available. Pre-registration required.


QUEERBOSS - VOLLEYBALL

258 Keltic Drive, Sydney

5:30pm-7pm, free

The QueerBoss program aims to be a welcoming and supportive safe space where individuals can learn leadership skills, sharpen athletic skills, stay active, and have fun! The program is open to all youth who are part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, aged 9-15. QueerBoss strives to introduce non-conventual sports and activities to youth who may not have previously felt comfortable or have not been interested in participating in organized sports. No previous sport/athletic experience is necessary to participate. Limited spots available. Located at former Keltic Dr. baseball field next to County Arena.


LADIES NIGHT STAND UP PADDLE

Create your own personal zine with the guidance of Cora Parago! Get creative and use your imagination to create something completely unique to you! Our zine night is a 13+ event. The deposit holds your place. After participation in the workshop, you will be refunded. If a deposit is a barrier to your participation in this program, please email connectarts@cbrm.ns.ca and we will provide an alternate registration. We strive to ensure all participants are able to access our programs.



FRIDAY, AUGUST 11

FIT 4 TOTS

LOUISBOURG BOARDWALK PARK AND BOAT LAUNCH, LOUISBOURG

The Fit 4 Tots program will aim to provide beginning sport/movement instruction to children aged 0-5. The basis of this program will focus on getting the children active while providing them with proper developmental skills by introducing aspects of the 5 fundamental movements (I.e., kicking, throwing, jumping, etc.). Parents/guardians/caregivers will be required to stay with their children for this program.

KAYAK CAMP WITH ATLANTIC DIVISION CANOE KAYAK

Mira River Provincial Park, Albert Bridge

Suitable for youth ages 12-18 years of age. The program will be led by a Level 3 certified canoe kayak coach, with support from ADCKC skilled staff. The programming will include on water, technical, and dryland components, and seek to improve comfort and skill level in the sport. ADCKC will provide canoes, kayak, paddles, and lifejackets. Limited spaces available. Participant numbers subject to change based on Covid-19 guidelines as set out by the province of Nova Scotia.

The workshop will cover how to thread, use a sewing machine, cut out a pattern, sew your creation together and iron! The deposit holds your place. GIRLBOSS – SPIKEBALL

Join us this week to learn about the sport of Arm Wrestling and to give it a try! The GirlBoss program aims to be a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can learn leadership skills, sharpen their athletic abilities, stay active, and have fun! This program is open to all youth who identify as girls or non-binary aged 9-15. This program introduces non-conventional sports and activities to youth who may not have previously felt comfortable or have not been interested in participating in organized sports. No previous sport/athletic experience is necessary to participate in the program. This program aims to be barrier free. If lack of transportation, access to proper footwear/clothing, or other barriers limit your participation please inquire for support any time.


INDIA'S 76TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

NAMASTUESDAY'S YOGA - GLACE BAY MINERS MUSEUM

Yoga in the park is all about having fun and trying something new! Join yogi Amanda Rowe for a one-hour class that will get your body moving and allow you to try new poses that you may not try on your own. Meet us on the grass for this super fun and relaxing yoga session!


WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16

CBRM RURAL ACTIVITY CAMP: FAIRIES AND FRIENDS

Riverside School, Albert Bridge

9am-12pm, free

Elementary-aged youth are invited to participate in our activity camps. Children must have been in an elementary grade (PP-5) in the last school year in order to attend. CBRM Rural Recreation Activity Camps are FREE but require pre-registration prior to the event. We ask that you send your child with a water bottle and snack (NO NUT PRODUCTS PLEASE!). Activities take place indoors and outdoors and can sometimes get messy (i.e. painting, outdoor play, water games, etc.) so please dress accordingly! Also, we ask that you send your child wearing sunscreen and appropriate footwear! Activity Camp Capacity is based on staff and space available at varying locations. YOUTH KAYAK PADDLE

Sessions will include instruction by a certified Paddle Canada instructor. Gear and lifejackets will be provided and cleaned by the CBRM Recreation. Limited spaces available. Because of the small number of spaces available, we are required to take a booking fee; this fee will be refunded to participants after attending the program. We ask that those unable to attend the program give sufficient notice so that we can release spaces to those on the waitlist; those failing to cancel their booking less than 12 hours before the program time will not be returned their holding fee. If the $10 holding fee is a barrier and you wish to attend a program, please reach out to us directly at aeeisan@cbrm.ns.ca.


GET ACTIVE - BARNYARD

Dawe Avenue Municipal Park, Glace Bay

5:30pm-7pm, free

The Get Active program will encourage youth to get out and participate in fun summer activities! The program will aim to provide activities that are physically active based but not typical sports that can be participated in through other programs. This week we will be playing Barnyard (aka Four Corners). This tag type game involves 4 separate teams that will be assigned a specific corner. The object of the game is to gather all of the object that your team has been assigned from the other 3 corners without being tagged. The team that gathers all of their items the fastest wins that round!


SLIME ATTACK!

Glace Bay Library, Glace Bay
