Parks Canada: What’s For Dinner?

Parks Canada educators will lead a fun and interactive children’s workshop on food chains and human-wildlife interactions. Registration is required. Please call the library at 902-849-8657 to reserve your spot!


Morning Strides

Renwick Brook, Glace Bay

10am-11am

Morning Strides is a Strider Bike program designed for kids aged 1-5 years old to get active from a young age! Strider bikes can help teach balance and gain confidence to use a bike with pedals! Register now and start the day off with some fun morning strides! Reminder: Participants may bring their own bikes, but if you do not have one, we have strider bikes on hand. We have a small quantity of helmets so participants are encouraged to bring their own, parents/guardians must be in attendance.


ADAPT

Neville Park Soccer Field, Whitney Pier

12pm-3pm

CBRM Recreation’s much loved ADAPT program is back for another year! Join us Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays throughout the summer for fun, interactive activities with peers and our ADAPT leaders. This program is intended for children/youth aged 5-15 with varying abilities. Our trained and experienced ADAPT leaders accommodate all need to provide participants with an inclusive and welcoming environment. Free play, games, crafts, and one-on-one supports are available throughout the program. Please contact our ADAPT team to complete the registration form at cbrmadapt@gmail.com.


Youth Paddle

Mira River Provincial Park, Albert Bridge

4pm-5pm

Suitable for youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. Sessions will include instruction by a certified Paddle Canada instructor. Boards and lifejackets will be provided by the CBRM Recreation. Limited spaces available. Pre-registration required.


Youth Girls Paddle Boarding

5:15pm-6:15pm

Stand Up Paddle program for females and female identifying individuals between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. Sessions will include instruction by a certified Paddle Canada instructor. Boards and lifejackets will be provided by the CBRM Recreation. Limited spaces available. Pre-registration required.


Ladies Night Stand Up Paddle

QueerBoss - Skateboarding

Coxheath Skate Park, Coxheath

5:30pm-7pm

Come join Shred Sirens to learn about skateboarding! This is a safe space to learn what it means to lead, sharpen athletic skills and learn new ones! Open to all youth who identify as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, no previous sport experience necessary. Welcoming and supportive atmosphere where positive experiences with sport and active living are the focus. Limited spots available. Located at former Keltic Dr. baseball field next to County Arena.

Herogram Workshop: Beginner Coding

Glace Bay Library, Glace Bay

10:30am-1pm

Learn a functional programming language called Elm to create electronic postcards! This workshop is for ages 10-14 and will help introduce and develop skills in computer coding, communication, and creative thinking. No coding experience is required! Registration is required. Register by calling the Glace Bay Library 902-849-8657 or email Emily ewilliams@cbrl.ca Laptops will be available for use during the workshop. However, if participants have one to use they are free to bring their own.

Drop into the McConnell Library on Fridays to knit or crochet with a community of crafters. Bring your own project or use donated yarn to make warm items for local non-profit organizations. Enjoy tea and friendly conversation.

CBRM Rural Activity Camp: Hollywood Hullabaloo

Marion Bridge Community Hall, Marion Bridge

9am-12pm

Elementary-aged youth are invited to participate in this activity camp. Children must have been in an elementary grade (PP-5) in the last school year in order to attend. CBRM Rural Recreation Activity Camps are FREE but require pre-registration prior to the event. We ask that you send your child with a water bottle and snack (NO NUT PRODUCTS PLEASE!). Activities take place indoors and outdoors and can sometimes get messy (i.e. painting, outdoor play, water games, etc.) so please dress accordingly! Also, please send your child wearing sunscreen and appropriate footwear! For any questions/concerns call (902) 733-2351.


Fit 4 Tots

Munro Park, North Sydney

10am-11am

The Fit 4 Tots program will aim to provide beginning sport/movement instruction to children aged 0-5. The basis of this program will focus on getting the children active while providing them with proper developmental skills by introducing aspects of the 5 fundamental movements (I.e., kicking, throwing, jumping, etc.). Parents/guardians/caregivers will be required to stay with their children for this program.

What's SUP Saturdays

Mira River Provincial Park, Albert Bridge

1pm-5pm

One hour guided Stand Up Paddle session with one of our Paddle Canada certified Flat Water SUP instructors. Instructors will cover some basics of paddling, and then take participants out for a paddle. For ages 16 and up. Pre-registration required.

Connect Arts: Guided Paint Night

Emera Centre Northside, North Sydney

7pm-8:30pm, $10 refundable deposit

Join a 19+ paint night in the upstairs rooms of the North Sydney Emera Centre. Everybody is welcome, no prior experience is necessary. Enjoy a calm environment while artist Bailey Higgins guides you through a painting. The best part of our paint night is that although you are being guided, each and every one of you will end up with a unique rendition of your own! The deposit holds your place. After participation in the workshop, you will be refunded. If a deposit is a barrier to your participation in this program, please email connectarts@cbrm.ns.ca and for an alternate registration. CBRM strives to ensure all participants are able to access programs.


Girl Boss - Archery

258 Keltic Drive, Sydney

The GirlBoss program aims to be a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can learn leadership skills, sharpen their athletic abilities, stay active, and have fun! This program is open to all youth who identify as girls or non-binary aged 9-15. This program introduces non-conventional sports and activities to youth who may not have previously felt comfortable or have not been interested in participating in organized sports. No previous sport/athletic experience is necessary to participate in the program. This program aims to be barrier free. If lack of transportation, access to proper footware/clothing, or other barriers limit your participation please inquire for support any time.

This week we have our friend John from John's Archery coming to teach us about archery! There will be different bows you can try out as well as different targets to shoot at!


NamasTuesday's - Yoga on the Louisbourg Waterfront

Louisbourg Boardwalk Park, Louisbourg

Yoga in the park is all about having fun and trying something new! Join yogi Amanda Rowe for a one-hour class that will get your body moving and allow you to try new poses that you may not try on your own. Meet us on the grass for this super fun and relaxing yoga session!

The Get Active program will encourage youth to get out and participate in fun summer activities! The program will aim to provide activities that are physically active based but not typical sports that can be participated in through other programs. This week we will play different tag games and ultimate frisbee, no experience is necessary, we will teach you how to play!
