Thursday, October 5

CBRM Active Aging Week: Coal Town Trail Community Bike Ride

Italian Community Hall, Dominion

10am-12pm

Get ready to pedal through the scenic trails and experience the beauty of our community. Bring your own bike and helmet, or use one of our loner bikes. This is an easy ride with no automobile traffic, the perfect place to get back on a bike and see if you enjoy it. Stephanie and Edwin MacLellan will lead the ride from Italian Hall in Dominion to the Gardiner Highway and back. The session will also include basic trail etiquette instructions and bike handling skills. You don't need fancy bike clothes, just your wear something comfortable and running shoes. After the bike ride, join us at the Italian Hall for some tea, coffee, snacks and a chat. This is a free event but will require registration. There are a limited number of loner bikes, so if you need one, request it when you register.

Storehouse Paint Night with Nancy Chiasson

Fortress of Louisbourg, Louisbourg

Paint Night with award winning local artist, Nancy Chiasson, is back by popular demand. With the scenic Fortress of Louisbourg as the inspiring setting, you will be guided by this experienced teacher (15+ years) to create a wonderful, easy painting in two hours. The cost includes use of paint and brushes, plus instruction that makes it easy and fun to make memories with friends. Painting will be on a slate tile, instead of a traditional canvas. Bar opens at 5:3 pm. There will be a full drink menu featuring all Nova Scotia products (cider, wine, craft beer and spirits) and a small food menu available for food and drink purchases. Painting begins at 6pm.


Kids Scooter Night - Scooter Around

New Waterford & District Community Center, New Waterford

An open space to bring along your scooter and helmet. There will be a fast rider and easy rider section to meet different skills level. There will obstacles, fun games and a decoration station to fancy up your scooter. Helmets are REQUIRED for those who are scootering.


CBRM Active Aging Week: Woman's Learn to Play Pickleball

This event is designed specifically for women who are interested in learning how to play pickleball. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience playing the past and want to rediscover your love for the sport, this event is for you. Come and join us for a fun and casual evening of pickleball. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of disc golf. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, this event is for everyone. Expert instructor Kenny MacIntyre will be there to provide an introduction to the game and demonstrate some disc throwing techniques. This event is open to all ages, so gather your friends and family and head to the course for a fun and exciting afternoon. No equipment needed. Discs are provided. Remember to dress for the weather and bring your water! The disc golf course as Colliery Lands Park is great for all skill levels.

This session is geared to those new to paddling. Give kayaking a try, without the need to buy any gear. He loves nothing more than introducing new paddlers to kayaking! Because of the small number of spaces available, a booking fee is required. This fee will be refunded to participants after attending the program. Day in the Life of a Coalminer

Cape Breton Miners' Museum, Glace Bay

Situated along the North Atlantic Coastline, the Cape Breton Miners’ Museum is a tribute to the miners and their families. Take a virtual mine tour to learn the history of mining and the evolution of coal through this immersive exhibit. Then, dressed in a cape and hard hat, visitors join a retired miner on a tour of the coal mine, and learn about his work and life, as well as the industry and culture.
